Research Partnerships

Reaching out for hereditary angioedema (HAE) and other rare diseases

Our external research program

We support pioneering research that advances science and improves patient lives. We value building our knowledge base and therapeutic outcomes by supporting independent and collaborative research with our medical and scientific peers.

This global external research program is open to all academic and community-based researchers who are interested in conducting their own research as investigator-initiated studies (IIS) or want to work in collaboration with BioCryst through external collaborative research (ECR). To submit a request, download the study concept form below.

Areas of interest for ECR

Berotralstat

  • Novel outcomes or composite endpoints in patients treated with berotralstat
  • Real-world effectiveness and safety of berotralstat in patients who switched from other prophylactic therapies or are newly initiated on berotralstat
  • Patient-reported outcome measures for patients treated with berotralstat
  • Effectiveness of berotralstat in other bradykinin-mediated angioedemas

Disease-specific

  • Burden of treatment and disease for patients living with hereditary angioedema (HAE)
  • Shared decision making in HAE
  • Diagnosis of HAE and other bradykinin-mediated angioedemas

For investigator-initiated studies (IIS) and ECR the investigator serves as the sponsor of the study and assumes responsibility for study design and protocol development, institutional and regulatory approvals and reporting requirements, study conduct as defined by all applicable local and regulatory requirements, and dissemination of study results in peer-reviewed publications.

The scientific review committee meets regularly to review all submissions and awards funding based on medical or scientific merit, study feasibility, and availability of funds. BioCryst may provide support for IIS/ECR in the form of funding and/or study drug, depending upon the type of research. Support of a clinical research study does not imply any obligation toward, or is in any way connected to, the recommendation or prescribing of BioCryst medicines.
